BELOVED ASHES
Beloved Ashes is a collection of eight intimate compositions of vocals and piano sounds. The album was released on streaming platforms on 8 December 2023.
Franz Schubert, football fields, a walnut tree, sharks and waterfalls all play their roles in Vava Quail’s debut album Beloved Ashes. Inspired by a trip to his hometown, Berlin-based singer-songwriter Dennis Große-Plankermann goes on a journey through some of his most intimate dreams and memories, traveling past some of the monsters lurking underneath the surface:
„I went to where I grew up… and was suddenly hit by a feeling unknown to me. Everything seemed familiar and unfamiliar at the same time, memories in every single corner, good and bad ones. I went back to Berlin and wrote a song about this: Beloved Ashes. I knew it wasn’t the end of the story. I decided to create a whole album around that feeling of alienation - to transform it and take it into another sphere.“
Over a period of two and a half years he recorded the album in his bedroom studio in Berlin and used the sounds of his childhood and youth: the grand-piano that’s been his companion for 22 years, vocals adding up to choirs, an occasional saxophone, an occasional flute. He finally decided to borrow his own personal superhero's name - Vava Quail - to share his music and stories.
